Benny Solis took the first win of the weekend at Barber Motorsports Park for the AMA Supersport riders. James Rispoli and Elena Myers join him on the podium.
Solis, Rispoli, and Myers led the way around the track for the majority of the race. Each rider took their turn at the front as they distanced themselves from the rest of the pack.
Myers would eventually lose touch with the top two riders, but she kept enough speed on the track to never have her third place finish put in danger.
"It was a pretty crazy race today," Myers said. "I tried to stay with these two fast ones, but I didn't have the tire left to do it."
With Myers running a few seconds behind, Rispoli and Solis engaged in a high-speed duel down the Barber Motorsports Park track. Rispoli and Solis would eventually run into lappers toward the end of the race, which forced Rispoli to give a few seconds to Solis.
"Benny made a great move on the lapper," Rispoli said. "And he was able to get that gap. It was hard to get back at him. He was really fast. But we'll come back strong tomorrow, and see if we can win one tomorrow."
Solis was able to take his third AMA Supersport win today at Barber Motorsports Park, in a race that was made a little less competitive due to some early race crashes. Tomas Puerta and David Gaviria both went down early.
"When those guys went out, there was a little bit less pressure on me," Solis said. "I was able to get in front and find some good lines."
The AMA Supersport riders will return to the track tomorrow for the second race of the weekend.
