Herrin Takes Provisional Pole at Barber

josh_herrin_amaJason DiSalvo was leading the way around the Barber Motorsports Park track today during the first qualifying session for the Daytona Sportbike riders, but DiSalvo gave up the lead in the closing minutes as Josh Herrin rode to the top of the time sheets.

Herrin set a 1’29.582 lap time around the Barber circuit, beating out DiSalvo by .2 seconds. That quick lap could be more than bragging rights, too. With a chance of rain tomorrow morning, Herrin may have earned the pole position today during Q1.

“There’s a chance it might rain in the morning,” Herrin said. “So we might not be able to beat it tomorrow. I just wanted to put in a good lap today, try to take that extra point.”

Herrin, DiSalvo, and Corey West have 17 points between them in the Daytona Sportbike standings. DiSalvo had a commanding lead in the DSB, but two DNFs at Road America dropped him down to third place.

“When I saw DiSalvo out there putting up those times, I knew I had to dig in and put in a good lap,” Herrin said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to take the pole point away from him.”

PJ Jacobsen finished in third place behind DiSalvo, a half second off of Herrin’s pace. Cory West and Tommy Aquino finished out the top 5.
