A sliver of blue sky was beginning to show when the AMA Superbike riders took to the track at Barber Motorsports Park. Heavy rains delayed the Superbike’s first free practice session of the weekend, but the AMA riders were able to hit the track in drying conditions.
Jordan Suzuki rider Ben Bostrom led the way for the AMA Superbike riders. Bostrom set a 1’38.632 lap around the Barber circuit to top the first free practice session, and he did it on the final lap.
Larry Pegram held the top spot for the second half of the session, but the BMW rider will have to settle for second.
Roger Hayden, Bostrom’s teammate, took third for the day.
Josh Hayes, who has made it a habit of running up at the front, finished in fourth.
The track was still wet in sections for the AMA Superbike riders, so they should be able to drop some time this afternoon during the first qualifying session.
