The Daytona Sportbike riders were the first ones out to test the wet track at Barber Motorsports Park. Rolling storms delayed the morning free practice sessions, but the DSB riders took to the track about an hour after their scheduled time despite a slight drizzle.
Danny Eslick was the quickest rider during the free practice session. Eslick set a 1’33.995 lap time around the Alabama circuit to top the time sheets during FP1. Eslick's quick time came on a dry circuit, before the storm halted the session.
Eslick was the only rider to drop below the 1’34 mark, beating out Taylor Knapp by .7 seconds. Knapp was followed by Jason DiSalvo and Santiago Villa.
Josh Herrin, who has won the last three races in the Daytona Sportbike series, finished in 9th place today behind Cory West, Tommy Aquino, Dane Westby, and Barrett Long. Herrin set a 1’39.251 lap time around the track today at Barber, nearly 6 seconds behind Eslick. But Herrin's time, like many of the DSB riders, was a bit misleading. Herrin's time came during the wet session after the storm, where as Eslick was able to keep his time from before the rain up on the scoreboard.
The rest of the weekend should be dry at Barber, and the DSB riders should drop a good deal of time during the qualifying session today.
