AMA Pro Racing: Live Updates From Barber Motorsports Park Hot

The AMA Pro Road Racing series heads to Alabama this weekend for the 5th round of the season at Barber Motorsports Park. All About Bikes is at the track and will be giving live updates throughout the weekend.

Friday

12:00 - The weekend got off to a wet start this morning. The Daytona Sportbike riders hit the track at noon for the first free practice session, but were only able to complete about two laps before the storm hit.

The AMA has released a revised schedule for the day.

  • 1:40 - DSB Practice
  • 2:30 Superbike Pratice
  • 3:20 - Supersport Practice
  • 4:10 DSB Qualifying
  • 5:05 - Superbike Qualifying
  • 6:00 - Supersport qualifying

1:40 -  The rain continues to drizzle, but the Daytona Sportbike riders are back out on the track.

2:20 - Danny Eslick is the fastest in the wet. Eslick set a 1'33.995 lap time on a wet Barber Motorsports Park track. (See the results here.)

Chris Ulrich is not racing this weekend in the AMA Superbike class. The M4 Suzuki team said that Ulrich "suffered two fractured lumbar vertebrae and other injuries during a race two crash at Infineon Raceway" last month. Ulrich was not able to get clearance to race this weekend. 

3:10 - Ben Bostrom tops the timesheets at the end of the AMA Superbike free practice session. Larry Pegram was leading until the final minutes, but the Jordan Suzuki rider was able to put in one final quick lap to set a pace of 1'38.632. (See the results here.)

4:10 - Travis Wyman tops the first Supersport free practice session. Wyman took his maiden supersport victory during round 4 of the AMA Supersport season at Road America, and is showing that he has the pace to repeat that result this weekend. Wyman was the only rider to drop below 1'35, setting a 1'34.912 time at Barber during FP1. (See the results here.)

barber_blue_skies4:30 - The Daytona Sportbike riders are on the track for their first qualifying session of the weekend. The clouds are starting to thin out and the track is starting to heat up. The DSB riders should have a completely dry track during their qualifying session. 

5:00 - Josh Herrin takes the provisional pole position. Jason DiSalvo was leading the first qualifying session up until the final minute, but Herrin put in one final lap to take the top spot. Herrin finished with a 1'29.582 on a dry Barber Motorsports Park track. (See the results here.)

5:50 - Josh Hayes took the provisional pole position this afternoon at Barber Motorsports Park. Hayes set a 1'25.980 laptime around a dry circuit in Alabama. Hayes beat out Tommy Hayden by .2 seconds. Roger Hayden and Blake Young made up the top 4. (See the results here.)

6:30 - Corey Alexander tops the first qualifying session for the AMA Supersport riders. (See the results here.)

Saturday Schedule

  • 8:00- Supersport Final Qualifying
  • 8:40 - DSB Final Qualifying
  • 9:30 - Superbike Final Qualifying
  • 1:00 - Supersport Race 1
  • 2:00 - DSB Race 1
  • 3:15 - Superbike Race 1

The AMA Supersport riders hit the track first today at Barber Motorsports Park for their final qualifying session of the weekend. Corey Alexander topped the timesheets during Q1, but on a dry track, we could see a few more riders push their times to the top of the time sheets in an attempt to take the pole position.

8:30 - James Rispoli tops the final qualifying session and takes the pole position. Rispoli ended the day with a 1'30.752 laptime. Rispoli was the only rider to drop below the 1'31 mark. He'll be joined on the front row by Travis Wyman, Benny Solis, and Corey Alexander.  (See the results here.)

9:10 - Danny Eslick takes the pole position for the Daytona Sportbike class. Eslick will be joined on the front row by PJ Jacobsen, Josh Herrin, and Jason DiSalvo. (See the results here.)

10:15 - Hayes takes the pole position. Hayes captured his 5th consecutive pole position today at Barber Motorsports Park. (See the results here.)

11:15 - Michael Beck led the way for the XR1200 series during their first free practice session. Beck set a 1'37.472 lap time around the Barber Motorsports Park track. Beck was followed by Chris Filmore, Michael Barnes, and Kyle Wyman. 

fan_walk12:00 - The AMA riders are taking a break from all the action as they meet fans and sign autographs. 

The opening ceremonies will begin shortly, followed by three AMA races. 

Saturday Race Schedule.

AMA Supersport - 1:00

Daytona Sportbike - 2:00

AMA Superbike - 3:15

1:05 - The Supersport race has been red-flagged. Tomas Puerta and David Gaviria got caught up in turn two on the first lap and brought each other down to the pavement. Both riders were standing after the accident, but were taken to the medical center for check-ups. 

1:45 - Benny Solis takes the win in the AMA Supersport race. Solis beat out James Rispoli and Elena Myers to capture the win at Barber Motorsports Park. (See the results here.)

2:45 - Danny Eslick takes a dominant win in the Daytona Sportbike class. Dane Westby and Corey West join him on the podium. (See the results here.)

The AMA Superbike race has been red flagged. Rain started coming down on the fifth lap, forcing riders into the pits. The AMA Superbike will restart as a 16 lap race. 

Martin_Cardenas_24:30 - Martin Cardenas takes the win on a wet Alabama circuit. Cardenas captured his first victory of the season ahead of Ben Bostrom and Blake Young. (See the results here.)

5:15 - Steve Rapp takes the pole position for the XR1200 class. 

SUNDAY AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK

It is a hot one out at Barber Motorsports Park today. Temperature are supposed to reach the mid 90s and the AMA racers should finally get a day in Alabama without rain. 

The AMA Superbike, Daytona Sportbike, AMA Supersport, and XR1200 racers will all get a warm-up session this morning. After lunch, the riders hit the track for their final races of the weekend. 

SUNDAY's SCHEDULE

  • 12:30 - XR1200 Race
  • 1:15 - Supersport Race
  • 2:15 - Daytona Sportbike Race
  • 3:30 - AMA Superbike Race

8:45 - Michael Beck leads the way during the warm-up session for the XR1200 class. Beck sets the pace at 1'36.829.

9:30 - Rispoli leads the way for the Supersport riders. Rispoli earned the pole position after the final qualifying round, and finished second in race 1. Rispoli at 1'31.432 during the morning warm-up session, a half second faster than race 1 winner Benny Solis. 

10:00 - Danny Eslick sets the pace for the Daytona Sportbike riders. Eslick took his first win of the season yesterday and is on pace to challenge at the front again during race 2. Eslick set a 1'30.334 lap time during the morning warm-up session ahead of Cameron Beaubier, Josh Herrin, and Dane Westby. 

10:30 - Roger Hayden topped the timesheets after the AMA Superbike warm-up session. Roger was followed by his brother Tommy, Josh Hayes, and Blake Young. Martin Cardenas, who won the first Superbike race at Barber Motorsports Park, finished in 8th. 

12:30 - The XR1200 riders are on the track for their first race of the weekend. Mihael Beck has a nasty crash and is thrown to the pavement. No red flag flies, but it looks like Beck could have some injuries. 

12:45 - Rapp takes the win! Steve Rapp won the XR1200 race today ahead of Chris Filmore and Tyler O'Hara. (See the results here.)

Rispoli_Wins1:45 - Rispoli takes the AMA Supersport win. Rispoli and Benny Solis had a fantastic race around the Barber circuit, but it was the ANT Racing rider who came out on top. 

2:45 - Josh Herrin takes the Daytona Sportbike win. Danny Eslick held the lead for the majority of the race, but Herrin led on the lap that mattered. Herrin took the lead on the final lap and crossed the line .2 seconds ahead of Eslick.
