Blake Young took his second consecutive victory in a race that rivaled the excitement of the AMA Superbike race at Miller Motorsports Park. Young and Hayes went back and forth throughout the Road America race, but Young, again, took the checkered flag.
The win was made even more sweet when Young pulled into the winner’s circle in front of a raucous Wisconsin crowd. Chant’s of “Blake the Snake,” and “One more time” drowned out the speakers as the Superbike riders accepted their trophies.
“Those guys, must of them are from high school,” Young said. “They’ve been coming here, 6 or so years. They’re great. It’s good to be home.”
Young and Hayes really put on a show for the Wisconsin crowd, but Hayes wasn’t sharing the same excitement at the end of the race.
“I’m going to go back to the drawing board,” Hayes said. “I made a few mistakes, but I’m just going to keep plugging away, and make them beat me every time.”
Tommy Hayden kept a close eye on the top two, and was able to make a late race pass. Hayden would cross the line nearly side by side with Hayes, missing out on second place by .009 seconds.
Hayden, although happy with third, is growing a little tired of watching Young and Hayes compete at the front.
“It’s getting a little old,” Hayden said. “I’m ready for a new view. These two are riding really good. They’re riding side by side at basically every corner, using a lot of track, so where am I going to go. So I’m just trying to take advantage of the few moments I have to make a pass.”
Young and Hayes are now tied at the top with 160 points. Hayden, who has finished on the podium at every race, is in third with 143.
