Josh Herrin took his second consecutive victory today at Road America. Herrin took the win at Miller Motorsports Park last weekend, and continued his win streak today during the first Daytona Sportbike race at Road America.
Herrin’s win was made even more sweet by the fact that series leader Jason DiSalvo failed to finish. DiSalvo handed Herrin a full 25 points when he ran into the dirt on lap two.
“It sucks to see someone fall,” Herrin said. “But when you realize they’re OK, and you realize that you just got a lot of points that you definitely needed.... it’s great.”
DiSalvo may have given up his stake in the points during the first race at Road America, but Herrin had to fight with PJ Jacobsen and Cameron Beaubier throughout the race.
The top three riders would swap the top spot back and forth. It wasn’t until the final lap that things really shook up when the top riders began to lap their slower competitors. Herrin was able to cut through the pack, but Jacobsen lost valuable time.
“That’s racing,” Jacobsen said. “All these guys have been through it, you just have to move on. We’ll come back strong tomorrow.”
Cory West took the second place finish behind Herrin. West started charging after the half way mark, and was eventually able to pull within .7 seconds of the leader.
“We just charged hard and tried to catch Josh at the end,” West said. “I think if we had another lap we could have caught him.”
Herrin will try to make it three in a row tomorrow, but he’ll have to fight off a determined DiSalvo.
