Race Report From Miller Motorsports Park: Sunday [Gallery]

And_theyre_offIt was a cold and wet day of racing at Miller Motorsports Park for the Daytona Sportbike, AMA Superbike, AMA Supersport, and World Superbike riders. Josh Hayes and Carlos Checa will have to wait until tomorrow to see if they can turn their pole positions into race wins, while Josh Herrin and Corey Alexander can spend Sunday night celebrating two great victories.

Corey Alexander took his first AMA Pro Racing win of his career today, and he did it in convincing fashion. Alexander won by close to 20 seconds and led at one point by as much as 28 seconds. Alexander beat out Travis Ohge and David Gaviria during a Supersport race that saw 10 riders hit the mud. (See the Supersport results here.)

In the Daytona Sportbike class, five riders were all vying for the top spot during the closing laps. But it was Josh Herrin who pulled out an amazing 2'04.57 lap around the wet MMP circuit to take the win on the final lap. Herrin takes a big step up in the points, as season leaders Jason DiSalvo and Danny Eslick both failed to finish in the top 10. (See the full race report here.)

Josh Hayes will lead the Superbike riders from the front of the grid tomorrow, like he has at every Superbike race so far this season. Hayes took his third consecutive pole position today, but he is sure to see a challenge from Blake Young, and the two Hayden brothers, Tommy and Roger, who will all start from the front row. (See the AMA Superbike Qualifying results here.)

The World Superbike series also finished qualifying today. Season leader Carlos Checa took the Superpole, and will lead the grid during the first World Superbike race tomorrow. Checa started out slow on the wet track, but eventually found a way to the top of the timesheets. Checa will lead a front row consisting of Sylvain Guintoli, Eugene Laverty, and Marco Melandri.
