Benny Solis has stayed on top of the timesheets throughout the weekend so far at Miller Motorsports Park. The young Honda rider took the provisional pole yesterday, and was able to maintain the top spot during the second qualifying session today on a wet Utah track.
Solis took the pole position with a 2’12.530 lap time. Solis, like the rest of the AMA Supersport riders, dropped more than 10 seconds during the second qualifying session due to the wet track. With slower lap times, the second qualifying didn’t have much effect on the grid positions, but the Supersport riders used the time to perfect their settings for what is sure to be a wet race this afternoon.
“We didn’t want to push to hard and crash,” Solis said. “But I’m happy with the settings we found and I’m excited for the race.”
Solis beat out Travis Ohge and Charles Strong during the second qualifying session. Ohge will be starting from 13th on the grid during tomorrow’s race, but his performance in the wet today shows that he could make his way quickly through the pack during the Supersport race.
“I ride a lot in Portland,” Ohge said. “The rains a lot worse up there. So I’m pretty comfortable on a wet track."
Here are the starting positions for the AMA Supersport race.
Row 1: Solis / Gaviria / Alexander / Puerta
Row 2: Riad / Tarr / Wilson / Thornton
Row 3: Dimick / Ferreira / Lauritzen / Myers
