Josh Hayes, Jason DiSalvo, Benny Solis, and Carlos Checa all topped the timesheets in their respected divisions during the opening day of the BigM Weekend at Miller Motorsports Park.
In the AMA Superbike division, Josh Hayes beat out Tommy Hayden and Blake Young to claim the provisional pole. Hayes has won every pole position so far this season, and looks like he has the speed to do the same tomorrow. Hayden and Young were less than .3 seconds behind the pacesetter, however, so you can expect a three man battle during the AMA Superbike race on Memorial Day. (Check out the AMA Superbike qualifying results here.)
Jason DiSalvo continues to prove that he’s the man to beat in the Daytona Sportbike division. DiSalvo, who has won every race this season, claimed the pole position today ahead of PJ Jacobsen and Josh Herrin. The Daytona Sportbike series, like the rest of the racers in Utah, could be facing wet weather the rest of the weekend, something that DiSalvo says his Ducati is quite comfortable with. Benny Solis led the way for the Supersport riders. Solis gave a dominant performance at Infineon with a double victory, but David Gaviria and Corey Alexander nearly kept pace around the Utah track. (Check out the AMA Supersport qualifying results here.)
For the World Superbike riders, Carlos Checa showed why Miller Motorsports Park is one of his favorite circuits. Checa led the free practice session, then took the provisional pole ahead of Leon Camier and Max Biaggi. (Check out the World Superbike qualifying results here.)
Michael Barnes took the provisional pole position in the XR1200 series. Barnes will have to fend off Danny Eslick, Chris Filmore, and Chase McFarland for the win tomorrow. (Check out the XR1200 results here.)
