Five Questions With Blake Young

blake_young_profileBlake Young followed up his fantastic double at Daytona with a solid weekend at Infineon during the second round of the AMA Superbike season. With two wins and a podium so far, Young is proving to be one of the premier riders in the AMA. Young will be looking to add to his win total this weekend, but before he hits the track at Miller Motorsports Park, Young took some time to talk about the season with All About Bikes Magazine.

How are you guys approaching the altitude issues at Miller Motorsports Park this weekend.

You know the best thing to do is to get up there a week before the race. We didn't have the luxury of doing that this year. But for the most part, if you stay focused it shouldn't be much of a problem. I wasn't in the best of shape last year and it definitely took its tool. But I'm on a pretty good fitness regime this year,. Everyone's in the same boat so it shouldn't be a problem.

You've been riding with Suzuki for nearly all of your career. Has that been a conscience effort or is that just the way the cards have fallen?

I signed my first contract when I was 16 with American Suzuki, and I've never looked back. Suzuki has been great to me. It's great being a part of their team. The Suzuki GSX-R1000 is a bike that I've been riding for many years, and I love riding it. I think Suzuki has a fantastic bike. I'd love to see it grow. So yeah, being a part of the Suzuki family is great.

You, Tommy Hayden, and Josh Hayes are currently leading the series. Do you think this will come down to a three man season?

Yeah, you know you're always going to have your riders at the top, but there is always the option of another rider getting into the mix. I hope to be consistently up there, but there are definitely a few riders that will give us some good races.

Is there any added pressure with the World Superbike series being at Miller this weekend?

No, I think it's really great to have them here. The program with them is great. I'm really looking forward to being part of the show, and giving the fans a good weekend.

After Miller, you had back to Wisconsin. Is there a home track advantage at Road America?

It's just great to have the family and friends there. That's big for me. So it's definitely gives you some extra motivation to perform well. The track is great, and the atmosphere. I really love going there. We're on the road so much so it's great to have a race close to home.
