Hayes Wins Race 1 in Infineon

Josh_Hayes_qualifying_friday_2Josh Hayes looks like he’s on his way to another Infineon double. Hayes won both races at the Infineon Raceway in 2010, and judging by his performance this weekend, he could be on his way to another double.

Hayes won today’s race by more than 7 seconds. Tommy Hayden challenged Hayes for the majority of the race, but the Yamaha rider pulled away with a comfortble win in the closing laps.

“That was hard work,” Hayes said. “Tommy rode a fantastic race but what can I say, it’s been three races in a row to win a Superbike race here, and it’s just fantastic. I was nervous heading into the weekend because we set the bar so high last year. Hopefully we can come back tomorrow, and make everyone wait another year for someone else to win here.”

Hayes took his 15th Superbike win today, and his third consecutive at Infineon. Hayes finished on the podium at both races at the first round of the AMA Road Racing season, and with his win today he takes the points lead.

Behind the top two riders, Martin Cardenas and Blake Young battled for third place. Young would make a late race dash for the finish line, but would fall short by .06 seconds.

Hayes now leads the series with 81 points, three points ahead of Young and 10 in front of Hayden.

The AMA Superbike riders will be back on the track tomorrow for race 2 at Infineon.
