Jason DiSalvo won from the pole position today at the Infineon Raceway in California. It is the second consecutive victory for the Ducati rider, who won today’s race by more than 5 seconds.
DiSalvo and Jake Holden were in a tight battle at the start of the race, but Holden would make a mistake a few laps in and bring his bike into the dirt. Holden dropped down to ninth place as DiSalvo extended his lead to more than 8 seconds.
But Holden wasn’t done racing yet.
“It was just a stupid mistake. I got a little close to Jason and ran wide off the track,” Holden said. “I got back on the track but I was pretty pissed with myself. I didn’t want to let my team down so I just put my head down and started going.”
Holden would work his way back up to second place and would close the gap to DiSalvo to just four seconds. But Holden didn’t have the time to get any closer, and would have to settle for second place.
“Jake made a mistake and I was able to put it in cruise control,” DiSalvo said. “But next think you know the gap was shrinking, and it was shrinking fast.”
DiSalvo put his head down in the second half of the race and was able to keep a comfortable distance ahead of Holden. DiSalvo took his second consecutive win this season, and his 12th AMA Road Racing win of his career.
