Casey Stoner set the pace in France this morning and claimed his 29th pole position of his career. Stoner will be joined Marco Simoncelli and Andrea Dovizioso to make an all-Honda front row.
Stoner set a 1’33.153 lap time around the Le Mans circuit, barely beating Simoncelli by
.05 seconds. Stoner’s teammate Andrea Dovizioso earned the final spot on the front row, his first front row start of the season.
The third Repsol Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa, will be starting from the front of the second row. This is the first time this season that Pedrosa will not be starting from the front row. It is also the first time that Jorge Lorenzo will be starting on the second row this season. Lorenzo earned the fifth place spot ahead of Yamaha rider Cal Crutchlow.
The Ducati duo of Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden continued to struggle to find the pace today. Rossi and Hayden finished in 9th and 10th respectively, more than a second off of Stoner’s pace.
