Hayes Tops Friday Qualifying in Infineon

Josh_HayesJosh Hayes and Tommy Hayden were the top two riders throughout the first day of racing in California, but at the end of the first qualifying session, it was Hayes who had the advantage. Hayes took the provisional pole position by .21 seconds ahead of Hayden.

Hayes took the double win at Infineon in 2010, but said that the double victory put extra pressure on him this year.

“I was very nervous coming here to Infineon,” Hayes said. “I sat the bar so high for myself last year, that there was a lot of pressure on me to perform this weekend.”

Ben Bostrom finished in third during the opening qualifying session and was the final rider to dip below 1’37. Martin Cardenas and Blake Young finished in fourth and fifth, putting four Suzuki’s in the top 5.

Three BMWs came across the line next, ridden by Larry Pegram, Chris Peris, and Steve Rapp, before a pair of Yamahas completed the top ten with the help of David Anthony and Geoff May.
