Holden Holds Onto Top Lap Time During Q1

Jake_HoldenJosh Herrin and Jason DiSalvo swapped the top spot on the timesheets throughout the first qualifying session for the Daytona Sportbike riders, but it was Jake Holden who would end up on top at the end.

Claiming the provisional pole meant a lot to Holden, who wasn’t sure if he’d be able to compete this weekend. The Holden Racing team has been fighting through money issues this year, but with the help of fans, the grid, and various sponsors, Holden was able to take to the grid.

“It’s just great to be out racing,” Holden said. “Finishing at the top makes it all worth it.”

Holden set a 1’39.444 lap time around the Infineon track, beating out DiSalvo by a tenth of a second. The two Ducati riders were followed by Herrin, who was the final rider to dip below the 1’40 mark.

Danny Eslick took fourth for the day, and was followed by Tommy Aquino, Taylor Knapp, PJ Jacobsen, and Cameron Beaubier.
