Dane Westby was on his way to a possible podium at the Daytona 200 when Josh Herrin’s elbow made contact with his brake. The contact caused Westby to take a nasty spill on the final lap. Well, Westby isn’t taking any chances that an incident like that is going to happen again.
Before the Daytona Sportbike riders take to the track for the first free practice session at Infineon, Westby and his team were outfitting a special brake guard onto his bike.A mechanic working on the bike called it an "idiot proof" brake guard.
After the incident at Daytona, the AMA fined Josh Herrin and suspended him from the Infineon event.
Wesby was riding at the front of the pack throughout the Daytona 200 before the crash. Now equipped with an idiot proof brake guard, Westby should be able to make up some points this weekend.
You can see a video of the Daytona crash here.
Here's another look at the brake guard.
