2011 AMA Supercross Preview: Round 11 Jacksonville

jacksonville_supercrossRyan Villopoto is beginning to build some steam ahead of his rival James Stewart. Villopoto's race win last weekend in Indianapolis put him 26 points ahead of Stewart, and he'll be looking to add a little more space between them at the Jacksonville event.

This will be the third year that an AMA Supercross event will be held in Jacksonville, Florida, and both Stewart and Villopoto have race wins at EverBank Field. Villopoto has momentum on his side, as he has won the last three Supercross events, but Stewart could have some extra motivation to win in his home state of Florida.

Behind Stewart comes Chad Reed who sits just three points out of second place. With the way Villopto's riding, the true battle of the 2011 AMA Supercross season could be a dogfight between Stewart and Reed for second place.

2010 Champion Ryan Dungey has yet to take a race win this season, but he's consistent efforts put him in the fourth place spot behind Reed. Dungey has the speed, but small mistakes have cost him a few podium.

Trey Canard took his first victory of his career this season, but he'll need more of the same if he wants to catch up to the likes of Stewart and Villopoto. Canard is currently in fifth place, 52 points adrift of the season leader.

2011 Supercross Standings

Ryan Villopoto - 221
James Stewart - 195
Chad Reed - 192
Ryan Dungey - 183
Trey Canard - 169
