The 32nd edition of the Dakar Rally is fast approaching, and this morning, organizers announced a few of the details. The Argentina Chile Dakar, the 3rd edition in South America, will run from the first of the year until January 16th.
The 2011 Dakar Rally, which consists of more than 5,600 miles of roads, tracks, and dunes, was designed this year to feature the most difficult sections in the second half of the race. The organizers chose this design to create the maximum amount of suspense heading into the final days of the rally.
The rally will start and finish in Buenos Aires this year. Riders will explore the extreme northern regions of Argentina and Chile, the Atacama Desert, and the Bolivian and Peru borders before the race is over.
More than 430 vehicles are expected at this year's Dakar, which is almost a 20% increase from 2010.
KTM heavyweights will be back with Cyril Despres and Marc Coma, who together have won the last five Dakars. But this year KTM will have strong competition from BMW, Aprilia, Yamaha, Sherco, Honda, and Beta.
