If you thought the American racing season was over because of a little thing called winter, think again. The Ice Race Grand Championship will take place on January 22nd and 23rd, and for the first time it will be officially sanctioned by the AMA.
"The winter months bring out some of the most dedicated AMA racers, and the best of the best converge on the Ice Race Grand Championships," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "We're looking forward to working with NAAS to offer our racers a top-level program and a great facility."
The Ice Race Grand Championships will have a number of different classes, from slightly modified off-road motorcycles, to bikes that were built with the sole purpose of racing on the ice. The event will also feature racers as young as 4-years-old, and a number of riders who are above the age of fifty.
"The NAAS team is really excited about this event, and with the help of some great people, we hope that the racers and fans will be too," said Patrick Grzebinski of NAAS, which is known for mixing family fun with racing. "Racers and their families will have all the fun they can handle, both day and night."
The event will be held at the Birch Run Expo Center in downtown Birch Run, Michigan. Racers will compete for AMA Racing National No. 1 plates, and the top rider will be named the AMA Racing Ice Racer of the Year.
