2010 AMA Motocross: Steel City Preview

mx_canard_pourcelRyan Dungey has the AMA Motocross championship all wrapped up, but don't expect the rookie to relax during the Steel City event this weekend. Dungey has the 2010 Championship, but he could still break a few records. If Dungey wins either Moto at Steel City, he'll set a record for most wins by a rookie in a season.

The Steel City event will also see an intense battle between Andrew Short and Brett Metcalfe. Short is barely holding onto second place. He only has a three point advantage over Metcalfe, and with four motos left, the second place position could change hands multiple times before the season is over.

Mike Alessi and Ben Townley both still have a chance at second place, but unless Metcalfe and Short sit out the next two events, it isn't likely to happen.

In the 250 division, Chris Pourcel and Trey Canard will continue their dogfight for the Motocross title. Pourcel has 13 points over his rival, but one slip up could see him fall from his first place spot.

Canard was able to cut Pourcel's lead down to two points at Southwick after the first moto, but a poor showing in the second moto gave the lead right back to Pourcel.

The third place battle in the 250 class is just as tight. Tyla Rattray and Dan Wilson are separated by a single point.
