Hopkins at the Top During the First Practice Session

ama_proracingThe AMA Superbike has been a constant battle between its two title contenders, Josh Hayes and Tommy Hayden. Hayden or Hayes have won 9 out of the 15 races this season, and have begun to pull away from the rest of Superbike contenders. But during today's free practice session, it was made clear that the leading duo had not completely shaken off their competition.

John Hopkins was the man standing at the top of the time sheets today after the first free practice session in New Jersey. Hopkins, who hasn't finished better than fifth this season, beat out Hayden for the top spot by .2 seconds.

Behind Hayden came Jake Zemke. Zemke started the season strong with two race wins, but he hasn't seen the top of the podium since the opening round. Zemke still sits in third in the overall standing, and managed to beat out Hayes today for third place in the free practice session.

Ben Bostrom was next across the line. Bostrom is just 12 points behind Zemke, and will be trying to gain some valuable points this weekend in New Jersey. Bostrom finished second in both races last time out, and will be looking for the top of the podium this weekend.
