AMA Superbike: Tommy Hayden set the tone during the first free practice session for the AMA Superbike at the Laguna Seca track, but in what has become the trend this Superbike season, Josh Hayes was close behind in second. Hayes holds a slight lead in the overall series, leading Hayden by four points with 285. But Hayden was the quickest at the free practice session, finishing with a 1:24.988 time, outpacing two MotoGP riders, including little brother Roger.
Hayes finished less than three tenths of a second behind Hayden, setting up another epic battle on race day.
But don't count out the rest of the AMA Superbike pack. The top ten riders during today's free practice session were all within one second of one another.
Daytona Sportbike - Josh Herrin topped the time sheets for the Daytona Sportbike riders, a half a second ahead of Steve Rapp.
Martin Cardenas finished in third. Cardenas will go for his second pole position of his career tomorrow. His only other pole position came last year at Laguna Seca.
AMA Supersport - Austin Dehaven was the quickest in the Supersport division. He was followed by Joe Pascarella and Cameron Beaubier.
Elena Myers, who led the session briefly at the start, finished in 7th.
