Waters Subs for Injured Young

ama_blake_youngAmerican Superbike rider Blake Young was injured last month during a test ride at Barber Motorsports park. Young is expected to be back in action at round 8 for the AMA Pro Racing event at the VIR circuit in August, but until then, Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters will be filling in for the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team.

“Firstly, I would like to wish Blake a speedy recovery," Waters said in a press release. "When I got the call up, I was blown away that the team thought of me to fill in. I know it’s not going to be easy as the next two tracks are quite hard, but I know I have the best team behind me. I will try my hardest and I hope I can do a good job for Suzuki and our sponsors, and I also want to thank my Team Manager, Phil Tainton, for coming with me!”

Waters won the Australian Superbike title in his rookie year in 2009. The last person to accomplish that feat was Mat Mladin, who won in his rookie season in 1992.

Waters will not miss any rounds of the 2010 Australian Superbike series, where he will try to defend his title.

Wow, moving between the States and Australia to ride in two series, while defending one is going to be hard work.

Good luck to Josh, let's watch what happens.
