Last Two Members of AMA Hall of Fame Class of 2010 Announced

The last two members of the AMA Hall of Fame class of 2010 have just been announced. Desert racer and team manager Bruce Oglivie will be joining the other inductees at the 2010 induction ceremony at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas on November 19th, as well as two stroke tuner Eyvind Boyesen.

Oglivie and Boyesen will be joining championship team owner Mitch Payton, AMA 250cc Roadrace Champion David Emde, off-road rights activist Clark Collins, dirt-track racer Don Castro, off-road gear pioneers John and Rita Gregory, and sidecar roadrace champion Larry Coleman.

BRUCE OGLIVIE

ama_ogilvieBruce Oglivie was a master Baja racer. He collected victories in the San Felipe 250, the Baja 500, and the Baja 1000. Oglivie's career was long and decorated. He is the only rider to have won the Baja 1000 overall in four different decades. His last win was in 2003 at the age of 51.

In 1984 Oglivie started to manage the off-road racing efforts of American Honda. Oglivie passed away on April 13th, 2009.

"So few excel at the highest levels of both competition and management, and Bruce Ogilvie was one of the greatest ever in both arenas," said Jack Penton, AMA director of operations. "Bruce's selfless nature, unique leadership abilities, incredible skill on a motorcycle and seemingly limitless knowledge regarding motorcycle development made him not only an asset to his employer, American Honda, but to the motorcycling community as a whole. Bruce embodies the spirit of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, and we're proud to have his memory grace its halls."

EYVIND BOYESEN

ama_boyesenEyvind Boyesen is one of the most accomplished two stroke engine tuners in the history of motorsports. Boyesen engineering set the standard for off-road racers in the 1970's, and his products continue to shape off-road racing through to today.

Boyesen built his worldwide reputation on his reed-valve innovations, but Boyesen was also known for his special porting techniques, water pump design, and enhanced accelerator pump opperations. Boyesen holds more than 40 aftermarket patents in the motorcycle industry.

"Eyvind developed many of his innovations in an era of great change in performance off-road motorcycling, and in the process joined other AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers in becoming a household name in the sport," said Penton. "Both everyday riders and national champions alike used Boyesen's products over the years, and many more will in years to come."
