Cardenas Takes Race Two at Road America

ama_dsb_roadamericaThe second race of the AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike at Road America, again came down to the closing lap. Martin Cardenas bested Josh Herrin by just .275 seconds at the checkers.

The second race was heavily contested from the beginning, but slowly the leading pack dwindled, leaving just Herrin and Cardenas at the front.  For seven laps, Cardenas and Herrin stayed within .1 seconds of each other. But on the final lap, Cardenas made a move at turn one to overtake Herrin, and was able to hold off the Team Graves Yamaha rider for the closing four miles.

Steve Rapp stole third place from Cory West with a late charge, as Dane Westby rolled into fifth.

Danny Eslick continued to slip in the overall standings, posting his worst finish of the season in 7th. Eslick finished in 5th and 7th for the weekend, dropping him down to second place in the standings. Herrin now leads the Daytona Sportbike with 216 points, followed by Eslick with 198, and Cardenas with 184.
