The next round of the American Superbike will see a new pilot racing around the track. Geoff May has just joined with Erik Buell Racing to complete the American Superbike series. May’s first outing will be at the Infineon Speedway in Sonoma, California, on May 14th.
The Buell racing team will be among the smallest teams at the event, as May will be the lone rider, accompanied by manager Dennis Zickrick and crew chief Michael Tjon. May will be riding Buell’s 1125RR for the remainder of the season.
The Erik Buell Racing team doesn’t have a rich history yet, being just one year old, but Buell has proven that it has what it takes to win. Buell designed the bike the won the inaugural Daytona Superbike Championships last year, and has high hopes for the future.
"We are very fortunate to be able to field a team of this caliber," said Buell. "Our team is very lean in size and budget and we are up against the best, but I know these guys will do everything possible to put on a great show for the fans."
May has been consistently in the top ten throughout his career. He finished 8th overall in the 2009 American Superbike, with three podium finishes.
"Geoff did a couple short tests with us, including one very cold and wet one at Road America this weekend, and all of us were very satisfied with the results," Ziedrick said in a release. "The bikes worked well, and Geoff is a very talented rider with great development feedback skills. We all look forward to joining the series."
