Friday’s first qualifying results, known as “basic qualifying,” for the second round of AMA Pro Racing at Auto Club Speedway in California were similar to the Daytona final qualifying results.
In the AMA Pro National Guard American SuperBike series, Jordan Suzuki rider Aaron Yates grabbed the fastest time at the 2.36-mile circuit, posting a 1:23.982 going into Saturday’s final qualifying session. According to an AMA press release, he said “I'm feeling really good this year, my health is really good and the No. 23 Jordan Suzuki guys have been working really hard and it's paying off.”
Second during basic qualifying on the 21-turn track was Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Tommy Hayden with a 1:24.133, and Foremost Insurance Ducati rider Larry Pegram in third with a 1:24.150.
In Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL, reigning champion Danny Eslick powered his GIECO Powersports/RMR Suzuki to the fastest lap, running a 1:27.164. In second was Team Graves Yamaha rider Josh Herrin with a 1:27.255, and Herrin’s teammate Tommy Aquino with a 1:27.457.
