The kick off to the AMA Pro Road Racing season began today in sunny Daytona Florida. The Superpole top spot was taken by Mathew Mladin on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 with a 1.38.419, second was Tommy Hayden on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 with a 1.38.211 and on the Ducati 1098R, Larry Pegram took third with a lap time of 1.38.457.
Two first time riders to the Superpole were Michael Laverty taking 8th place on his Celtic Racing GSX-R1000 with a 1.39.950 and Geoff May of the National Guard Jordan Suzuki team also on his GSX-R1000 taking 9th.
Michael Laverty said “…loved the experience but it felt strange being out there on your own and having to put everything into one lap, I normally take two or three laps to warm up, it was a great experience though”
