2010 AMA Superbike Schedule Hot

AMA Superbike

AMA Pro Road Racing recently announced a tentative nine-race schedule for the 2010 season, with omissions of Miller Motorsports Park. Negotiations are “ongoing for a 10th race,” AMA Pro Road Racing saying “those details will be released in the near future.”

The 2010 season will again feature two premier classes, which will most likely be the same as the 2009 season: American Superbike and Daytona SportBike. Also, SPEED will provide live coverage of the opening race at Daytona, and “flag-to-flag same weekend coverage of the two premier classes” with highlights of the other competing classes for the rest of the season. If things were like the 2009 season, AMA Pro Racing fans may have to wait until late Saturday and Sunday night to view the coverage.

“It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the continuation of a great partnership with SPEED,” said AMA Pro President Roger Edmondson. “Their commitment to the growth of our sport and their unique ability to capture the excitement that the athletes and machines of our sport put on display every race weekend made continuing our relationship an easy decision. With our broadcast partner in place and our schedule visiting the best venues in the United States, we expect 2010 to be a great year and look forward to kicking off the season in Daytona.”

The weekend of March 3-5, the AMA Pro Racing season will open with the 69th running of the Daytona 200, the only endurance race of the season. For the second consecutive year, Daytona will run under the lights. This will most likely be the norm due to its success during ’09.

Competing at “key areas across the country,” the remaining events will be doubleheader weekends that host dual 50-mile races on the weekends, beginning at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., and ending at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham, Ala.

Besides the lack of Miller Motorsports Park, the race in Topeka, Kansas, was also pulled off the 2010 schedule. After saying Heartland Park Topeka didn’t meet safety standards, the now retired 2009 Champion Mat Mladin opted out of the race.

I can't imagine they really are leaving off Laguna Seca, they just have to be waiting for confirmation I hope.

July 23-25...We all knew it would happen, but those weeks of anticipation killed me...But MotoGP is August 29 this year, so no double-header...
