Australia Uses Fear to Promote Motorcycle Safety [Video]

motorcycle_accidentMost motorcycle safety advocacy groups in America think that the best way to reduce motorcycle fatalities is by promoting safe riding, encouraging rider training, and demanding helmet use. But the Aussies... well, the Aussies have a different approach.

Australia's Transportation Accident Commission has released a series of billboards and PSA to promote motorcycle safety. But a TAC billboard doesn't read "watch out for motorcyclists," it reads "If you're an idiot you're going to die." Well, not exactly, but that's the point they're trying to get across.

Check out this PSA from the TAC.

Here are some stats from the latest TAC research report.

What do you think of the ad campaign? Would a good dose of fear create more cautious American motorcyclists?

The best way to change behavior and make it sustainable is to focus on the behavior you want to see. Just like when you're riding - you go where you look - so you'd better be looking at where you want to go.
