A motorcycle crash is obviously a dangerous, and occasionally deadly, incident. And unfortunately, the danger persists long after the bike has been laid down, the rider has slid across the pavement, and the ambulance has arrived. Why? Because motorcycle helmets are difficult to get off.
In order to provide safety, motorcycle helmets are designed to be, well, snug. If there is any spine damage during an accident, removing the helmet can be as complicated as surgery, and sometimes even requires medical professional to cut the helmet off.
Australian company Voztec has designed a helmet that can open from the rear and can be easily removed after an accident.
Here's a picture of the helmet.

"The helmet is a full face, rear access, dual locking helmet that has several advantages over and above the current state of the art full face helmets," the company said in a statement. "The other significant safety advantages Voztec enjoys over its current competition is the emergency safety release system and the fully adjustable chin cup that replaces the old fashion chin strap. Both of these changes have significantly improved the safety of full face helmets firstly by allowing medical personal access if required to the users head in the case of an accident without having to cut the helmet off (especially useful in remote situations) and secondly the new fully adjustable chin cup is not subject to strap creep."
Here's a video of the Voztec.
The helmet has been in development since 2005. The company recently produced its 5th generation prototype and is currently seeking patents before this technology finds its way into the marketplace.
