The Colorado Springs Gateway Hot

gardenofgodsThere are so many great towns and cities that are perfect for motorcyclists. This week, I would like to introduce you to Colorado Springs. While being a decent size city, its region is the intersection for eight different routes that you need to ride.

Starting in Colorado Springs you can head out on winding roads that travel through two state parks and several towns on US Route 24. For one hundred and twenty eight miles there is varying elevations and rugged terrain as you travel through Pike and San Isabel National Forests. If you enjoy more of the off-road type rides then head just west of the city and pick up State Route 67 towards Sedalia. For a scenic route with sweeping turns you should check out State Route 9 from Kremmling to Cannon City. The route spans one hundred and thirty eight miles through San Isabel National Forest and several other small towns.

No matter what route you choose to take in this section of Colorado you want to be sure to stop and see the city. There are walking tours of this historic city every Tuesday morning as well as an ongoing plethora of shows and events at the local venues. Take a hike through Cheyenne Mountain State Park or Bear Creek Nature Center. Explore underground rock formations at Cave of The Winds or learn about the history and collection of coins at the ANA Money Museum. Scenic railroad tours take you through the vast mountainous regions that make Colorado their home while history recreates itself at several local museums. You can trek up to the world famous Seven Falls or sample state wines at The Wines of Colorado. Amidst tackling these various adventures you will also want to visit two of Colorado’s pride and joy – the Mantitou Cliff Dwellings (former home to Native Americans) and the Garden of The Gods Nature Center.

Of course, let us not forget about the fantastic local bars that serve up some of the best food and drink around. You will not want to miss the Irish Sausage Rolls or Celtic Wings that are served up with over three dozen beer choices at Jack Quinn’s Irish Pub. Is that not enticing enough? Then you should head over to The Thirsty Parrot Bar & Grill to sample some of their homemade sandwiches and burgers. Finally, you can also check out Oscars Oyster Bar or Cleats Bar & Grill for other local cuisine.
