If you ever doubted that Ducati is all about motorcycle racing, the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale will end that for sure. The 2011 Ducati 1198 was already an incredible bike, but the 2012 Panigale superbike from Ducati will pass it like it's standing still. Even better, many of the improvements that we'll see in the Panigale are designed for the street rider as well.

Yes, the long awaited 1198 replacement, the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale, has landed. Scroll down to see the specification for both the 2011 Ducati 1198 and the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale; scroll down further to watch the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale "First Ride" video

2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale Improvements

When the names Porsche, Corvette, or Ferrari are spoken, love them or hate, most people take note. Ducati is the same when it comes to motorcycles. Weighing in at a slim 390lbs. (dry weight) and boasting 195 horsepower, the 1199 Panigale is sure to be a blast.

Comprised of a mix of magnesium, titanium and carbon fiber, the 1199 has all of the right ingredients to be a chart topper. The 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale is frameless with the engine serving as the "chassis" upon which the bike is founded upon.

When it comes to things like ergonomics, the riding position on the 1199 Panigale is a lot less awkward than the 2011 model. Riders describe the handlebar position as being far more "Japanese" in orientation. The improved comfort will be welcome by anyone who rides their Ducati on the street without sacrificing any of the performance on the track.

This and a "slew" of electronics will give the Panigale, pronounced Pana-golly a lot of attention. You know, like the attention we are giving it here.

Why is the new Ducati Panigale called an 1199 when the engine size is the same size as the previous model an 1198, as per your spec show here and the Ducati website?

Only interested.

the 1199 I believe is used due to the engine actually being slightly bigger than 1198cc.
