Harley Recalls 250,000 Motorcycles

harley_recallHarley-Davidson issued a recall for 250,757 motorcycles and trikes today saying that there is a problem with the exterior lighting and brake light switches on several models released in the last three years.

Harley is recalling certain touring, CVO touring, and trike vehicles manufactured between June 6th 2008 and September 16th, 2011. Harley says that the rear brake light switch may be exposed to excessive heat from the exhaust system on these models.

Harley said in a statement:

"The excessive heat may cause the switch to not activate the brake lamp or active the brake lamp when no brake is applied and/or cause a brake fluid leak at the break light switch, affecting rear brake performance. Either condition may increase the risk of a crash."

Harley is notifying owners and will install a free rear brake light switch kit.
