At the 2010 International Motorcycle, Scooter and Bicycle Fair (Intermot) in the German city of Cologne (6 – 10 October) Yamaha displayed a hint at the future possibilities of the new Super Tenéré adventure tourer. Yamaha called this concept machine the Yamaha World Crosser and it features several high-spec upgrades which may be available soon at your local dealer or via in the Internet.
The Yamaha Super Tenéré is already designed to be extremely capable at taking you anywhere you would like to go by motorcycle. The powerplant is a well-balanced 115 HP, 270-degree, 1199cc parallel-twin, and the electronics package includes ABS, traction control, fly-by-wire throttle, selectable power modes and more. All of this is housed in a chassis specially designed for durability and to handle both on and off-road conditions of any and all sorts.
The World Crosser takes that machine to the next level. It includes up-rated suspension components from Ohlins and a
specially designed Akrapovic exhaust system – which provide significant handling and performance improvements, respectively. A complete navigation system is installed behind the sizable front flyscreen which includes a high-end GPS and associated components to allow for traversing any location on the face of planet Earth (and, maybe Mars). And, Yamaha has also loaded the bike with every lightweight, adventure-purposed exclusive component available – and some which are not yet so – to show that the Super Tenéré is a motorcycle ready for anything.
There is no word as to whether Yamaha will offer this as an upgraded model variation of the Super Tenéré. But, it is very likely that every one of the parts added to the World Crosser concept machine will soon be available from the Yamaha parts catalog.
If there was ever any doubt that Yamaha intends the Super Tenéré as a direct competitor for BMW’s class-leading R1200GS, there is none now. See here for more information.
