The 2009 Ducati Desmosedici RR can be summed up quite simply; raw power and brute force combined with agility and balance. These qualities come from the heritage of the Ducati Corse Grand Prix Desmosedici GP9 that competed in the 2006 MotoGP World Championship. The D16RR engine follows the same guidelines as the Corse Grand Prix D16GP9. The 989cc engine produces 200 horsepower at 13,800 rpm, mostly due to details such as the desmodromic timing system, titanium engine components, and a compression ratio of 13.5. A Magneti Marelli 5SM ECU control unit and high-speed CAN line send fuel through 12-hole injectors and control the ignition of the four-cylinder engine.
