In Oyster Bay, Long Island, 20th Century Cycles will be the culmination of a lifetime of interest and passion for motorcycles by singer/songwriter extraordinaire Billy Joel. The New York native is said to be finishing with setting things up at the new shop presently, though there is no mention of it on his personal blog or on any Joel-related social media so far. In fact, there is precious little information available on anything more than its name and purpose.
Joel’s new enterprise will sell motorcycles (no word on a specific marque or if they will sell any specific class or type of bike) and accessories. The shop will also be setup to allow any biker to stop in and enjoy something to drink and chat with other riders – it is designed to be a good place to hang out and talk about anything moto-related. And, of course, the name he chose comes from an exhibition he put together last year in New York which featured his personal collection of historic machines. And, if you have ever seen him photographed astride one of his sweet beasts, you will know that he owns some significant bikes from years past.
Some hint of what to expect could come from the restoration business he built with Lighthouse Harley-Davidson owner Rob Schneider back in 2005. That venture does not seem to be currently active as its website is no longer available, but it could foretell the focus of 20th Century Cycles.
Once Billy Joel opens the doors to his new business we will all know what he is up to. If you are in the neighborhood, stop in and have a chat!
