The history of the MV Agusta marque is long, complex and full of historic motorcycles from the production lines and years of rather successful racing. The vintage MV Agusta motorcycles themselves are spread throughout the world in private collections, museums and in the offices and homes of very wealthy enthusiasts – with some in the hands of not-so-rich MV lovers, or ‘red noses’. Now, though, there is a place where anyone interested in the historic machines from this Italian manufacturer can go to see them up close and in great detail, although virtually. MV Agusta has just launched a “Heritage” section on their homepage which includes most of these great works of art – including the best photos they could find and detailed PDF technical specification for each featured bike.
The first production motorcycle from MV Agusta - the MV 98cc (nee ‘Vespa’ before anyone knew that company existed) - starts off the collection. That historic bike was first manufactured in 1945 and marked the birth of the MV Agusta factory in Verghera, Italy. Currently, MV Agusta’s Heritage pages cover only the years 1945 to 1977, but it this is a large collection. And, every machine, both street and race-only, is listed; even some of the rather rare and odd production vehicles – including some three-wheeled light-goods ‘trucks’ – are represented from that time period.
