In the world of motorcycle stunts, records are made to be broken. Setting out to break the 157-foot ramp-to-ramp record set by motorcycle daredevil Bubba Blackwell in 1999, Seth Enslow accomplished his mission on Tuesday, March 2…but not once, twice.
Piloting a modified Harley-Davidson XR1200, Enslow’s first try at Australia’s Sydney Harbor shattered Blackwell’s record; he jumped 175 feet. But not all media was present for his first jump, and Enslow gave it another go, the second time lengthing his jump by 8.7 feet for a new world record of 183.7 feet.
His response: “This is awesome! I’m stoked!”
Blackwell’s jump in Las Vegas in ’99 tied Evel Knievel’s record set in 1975. But with record-breaking comes pain; in 1999, while attempting to break the long-jump motorcycle record, Enslow overshot his landing. The Las Vegas native smashed into his handlebars, crushing his eye socket.
