The electric motorcycle can seem at times to be a figment of the imagination. They pop up briefly once in a while, and they are usually quick to disappear. One of the reasons for this is that most electric motorcycles are nothing but glorified toys. They have been viewed as complicated green gadgets and not as motorcycles. The only big store who currently sells an electric bike is Best Buy.
But Roehr intends to change that.
Roehr Motorcycles, LLC, is currently the manufacturer of the fastest American production sportbike, the 180hp 1250sc, and now they are throwing their hat into the electric ring. The eSuperbike and the eSupersport will be the electric counterparts to the already famous 1250sc.
The eSupersport, the smaller of the two, will be able to hit a top speed of 95 mph with a 0 to 60 time of five seconds. The eSuperbike, on the other hand, won’t top out until it hits 150 mph. The eSuperbike will also be able to hit 60 mph in just three seconds.
Both bikes have a 35-kilowatt AC motor that can provide 45 horsepower at 96 volts. The motor is virtually maintenance free, and can run for over 10 years non stop, according to a test done by Roehr.
Roehr plans to release the bike in April, and is anticipating its racing debut at the TTXGP green grand prix.
