Triumph Motorcycles and Tag Heuer are proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks with the unveiling of a classic “Bonneville Heuer” motorcycle in November.
The TAG Heuer Bonneville bike looks like something that was uncovered in a time capsule from the 1960s. That was done for a reason, as both Triumph and TAG Heuer watches have a direct connection with action hero Steve McQueen.
In the 1971 movie Le Mans, McQueen drove a Porsche with orange and blue accents. McQueen also wore a TAG Heuer watch in the movie. As a result, the 2009 Bonneville Heuer motorcycle sports orange and blue paint, along with a TAG Heuer logo on the gas tank and side panels. The partnership between Triumph and TAG Heuer is part of a milestone celebration achieved by each company this year
.
Triumph is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2009, while the TAG Heuer watch McQueen wore in Le Mans was created 40 years ago.
Yet another connection to McQueen that makes this partnership unique is the fact that the actor rode Triumph motorcycles when he wasn’t on screen. In addition to riding a Triumph in the 1963 classic, The Great Escape, McQueen raced one many years ago in the Six Days Trials in Germany.
The Bonneville Heuer motorcycle is scheduled to be shown at various watch shows throughout Europe in the coming months. It is not known whether the bike will be produced commercially. For more information, visit www.triumphmotorcycles.com.
