Motorcycle Passengers Banned in Honduras Hot

motorcycle_passengerIn order to make the streets safer, the Honduras government has officially banned motorcycle passengers. The decision comes a week after two high-profile murders which were both carried out by motorcycle gunmen.

Honduras has the world's highest murder rate (82 per 100,000 people a year) and several of those are carried out by shooters riding on the back of a motorcycles.

Congressman Erick Rodriguez said "we know it is going to affect a certain part of the population" but the country had to make more of an effort to stop the violence.

President Porfirio Lobo requested the order which is currently in place for the next 6-months.

According to a release, journalist Luz Marina Paz and former government security adviser Alfredo Landeverdo were killed last week by motorcycle gunmen.

Is Honduras making the right decision to ban motorcycle passengers?
