A new Great Escape motorcycle is going up for auction by Bonhams. The unique Great Escape motorcycle was created for the 2011 Great Escape 2, a charity ride across Europe to commemorate the 50 officers who perished during the "Great Escape" in 1944.
The motorcycle will be sold during Bonhams Collectors' Motorcars and Motorcycles auction on December 1st. The 2011 Triumph Bonneville T100 'Great Escape' is a modern version of the one ridden by Steve McQueen in "The Great Escape."
The bike, which is being sold with the registration 'WW11 POW,' is expected to bring in about $5,000. All proceeds from the sale will go to Armed Services charities.
"It is a pleasure to be offering this machine on behalf of such worthy causes," said James Stensel, Motorcycle Specialist at Bonhams. "The team at GE2 have put in so much effort in to reach the culmination of this project and we ask bidders to bid generously."
The "Great Escape 2" charity ride took motorcyclists on a 3,200 mile journey through 12 European countries. The ride went through the town of Fussen, where McQueen filmed the famous motorcycle jump
The motorcycle up for auction is a 2011 Triumph T100. It has been upgraded with Hagon shock absorbers, wider handlebars, concealed indicators, modified mudguards, military drab paintwork, solo seat and Triumph performance exhaust pipes.
