The National Insurance Crime Bureau released some statistics today which should be music to motorcyclists ears. Since 2007, the number of motorcycle thefts has dropped by 24%.
The report released today states that 65,678 motorcycles were reported stolen in 2007. In 2010, that number was only 49,791.
The report also breaks down the stats by brand in location, and judging by the numbers, it was not good to be a Honda rider in California.
In 2010, Honda riders were the victims of theft most often. 12,260 Hondas were stolen in 2010. Yamahas were the next most desired bike among thieves, followed by Suzukis, Kawasakis, and finally Harley-Davidsons.
California saw the most motorcycle thefts in 2010 with 5,662. Texas, Florida, North Carolina, and Indiana followed. These five states were the site of close to 20,000 motorcycle thefts, and accounted for 37.7 of all motorcycle thefts in the United States.
