Former Gov. Bob Riley Seriously Injured in Alaska Motorcycle Crash

bob_riley_on_a_motorcycleBob Riley, the former Governor of Alabama, was seriously injured on Sunday in a motorcycle crash in Alaska. Riley punctured a lung and broke several bones while riding near Fairbanks. Riley is currently being treated at a Fairbanks hospital, where doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

The Anniston Star notes that Riley was traveling on a gravel road when it started to rain. Riley, 66, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. A spokesman for the former Governor, Dave Stewart, said that a group of passing motorcyclist stopped to help the governor.

Riley, who started his six-week solo cross-country trip on June 14th, arrived in Fairbanks on Friday. Riley planned on exploring the Alaskan wilderness before heading back to Alabama.

His wife, Former First Lady Patsy Riley, is currently on her way to Alaska.

Patsy Riley said:

“God was watching out for him,” she said, according to the release. “We feel blessed because it could have been so much worse.”

AAB wishes the governor a speedy recovery. We would also like to apologize for excluding him from the 10 Politicians on Motorcycles list.

so he's proven he's just as lousy a motorcyclist as he was a governor.
