Fans of Steve McQueen, as well as Husqvarna, will be bidding on a 1971 motorcycle that McQueen owned on May 14 at a Bonhams auction during the annual Quail Motorcycle Gathering at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California.
The 1971 Husky isn’t worth too much on its own, but the fact that McQueen owned the bike could shoot the price up. The Wall Street Journal points out that a Ferrari 250 GT Lusso that was once owned by McQueen, sold for 10 times more than the market value, and brought in close to $2.3 million.
The motorcycle, a 400 Cross, is estimated to be worth about $6000-$8000. Add in the McQueen factor, and you could be looking at an $80,000 motorcycle. Bonham’s auction house estimates that the bike will sell for $50,000 - $70,000.
From the auction description:
"The Husky 400 Cross was a brutal, unforgiving motorcycle, difficult to ride well, which McQueen absolutely did. It embodies McQueen's desire to be taken seriously as a rider and racer. His mastery of the Husky only helps fuel his legend."
The Quail Motorcycle Gathering will also have Steve McQueen memorabilia, like trophies, pictures, autographs, magazines, furniture, and clothes on auction on May 15th.
But the biggest price will likely come from a 1933 Indian-Crocker 45ci OHV Speedway Racing Motorcycle Engine, which has an estimate price of $70,000 - 90,000.
