The days of the classic thumper are back in rare form. There was a time when there was a great selection of thumpers to choose from like the Velocette Venom Clubman, the Norton Manx or a BSA's Gold Star. In recent years the last thumper that comes to mind was the Buell Blast with it 500cc pushrod engine putting out 34 hp.
A new classic is in the making with the 2011 Honda CBR250R; imagine a thumper with the styling of a VFR1200F. This design makes this a small tight package at around 350 pounds ready for some serious riding, flickable come to mind at this weight.
The motorcycle also has a unique option for entry-level riders, ABS brakes. ABS brakes, anti-lock braking system, added to this motorcycle make this a great motorcycle for an entry-level rider.
Having the bike squat as opposed to the front end diving feels more natural, the ABS system applies both the front and the rear brakes at the same time keeping the bike flat and stable during braking. Color options for this new line will be Honda’s Metallic Black or Red/Silver. The low entry price point at $3,999 and $4,499 (with ABS) the Honda CBR250R is great motorcycle, that should attract a new group of riders into motorcycling.
