The Japanese motorcycle market is very different when compared to other parts of the world; scooters and small bore motorcycles often dominate the market. Retro styled bikes are also very common in Japan.

Thanks to the renewal in the widely admired retro traditional '60s- and '70s-style customs, wild paint jobs and specialty paints, such as metal flake, are showing up again. That is great news for fans of this style, but it might be bad news for painters who may be afraid to paint something more difficult than ordinary primer, base colors, and clear.

In Japan a shop named Flakes Custom Cycles has brought the art of metal flake back in vogue by painting with this challenging material. They have unique custom motorcycle parts and accessories for custom motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide, the parts are available through their online web shop. They have customized YAMAHA SR400's and YAMAHA XS250's with this unique flake metal painting style, also available through their online web shop.  Flakes will offer customer work on these two models of helmets, the Blaster a full faced helmet and the Buco an open faced helmet. The color of the paint can be selected with the option of solid or done with metal flake.
