BMW R1200GS Goes Dark X 3 Hot

2011 BMW R1200GS Triple BlackBMW believes that they have not gone far enough with the R1200GS – now they are taking it into the darkness. Overstatement, yes, but relatively accurate description of the all-new livery for the all-around adventure machine; it is to be almost completely in black. They have named it the R1200GS Triple Black as it is dressed in Sapphire Black Metallic body panels, black cross spoke wheels, black front fork and engine, black seat with special GS embroidered logo, and Asphalt Gray Metallic swingarm, rear frame and valve covers. Many of the components in that list are exclusive to this edition and cannot be ordered from the parts and accessories catalog.

The Triple Black is fitted with the same new 110 HP flat-twin engine with which the 2010 R1200GS and R1200 GS Adventure were shipped. The heads are sourced from the HP2 Sport boxer and provide four radially-mounted valves per cylinder and - different from the HP2 - two sparkplugs in a very compact design. The housing for that is the standard very well-built BMW chassis with BMW Telelever front and BMW Paralever rear suspension. Power gets to the rear wheel2011 BMW R1200GS Triple Black through a six-speed transmission connected to a virtually maintenance-free drive shaft. Electronics are numerous and many are standard on the Triple Black, including BMW Integral Anti-lock Brakes (ABS), Enduro Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), and a very advanced on-board computer. It will also keep your hands cozy with black hand protection (not pictured) and heated grips included in the deal.

The BMW R1200GS Triple Black is set to be delivered to US dealers by January 2011. It will carry a MSRP of $18,385 (not including shipping, dealer prep, etc.) and will be a true Special Edition of the revered ‘go anywhere’ motorcycle.
